Well from a fans point of view - I’D LOVE IT!!! But from a teams POV - NOOOO!!!!! It is hard enough for them to get from some events to the next as it is!

I’ve counted as V8’s have 40 races this year, including the non-championship round at the Aus GP. I think thats more than enough racing, when you split it down to races (like Crompton usually does), than to rounds. And the calendar is already very very long.
I honestly don’t think we could cope with any more races on the calendar, not only do we have a lack of suitable tracks in Australia to compared America (which may see the calendar introduce more overseas races).
I’d like to see more of the 300km endurance races that we had on the calendar a couple of years ago, and maybe races every 2 or 3 weeks. I’m not a huge fan of the 3 races per round format.

For the sport to progress there needs to be more race weekends. The general media ignores the sport because it is not on regularly enough to be considered mainstream.
The teams need to agree to make the cars cheaper to build , so that they can have more spare cars . The cars need to be cheaper to maintain as well.
The trouble at the moment appears to be that the teams are reluctant to change and/or the current system makes change difficult.

I personally would love more racing - I would love it too be like nascar but obvisouly thats not feasible at the current stage unfortunately but I reckon we could even up it 20. I mean I get withdrawal symptons if the racing isnt on after just one week lol. So I would certainly love it be fortnightly. Damn money lol!

Nascar teams tend to have 4-5-6 cars in the team HQ they have spare cars coming out their butt, & nascars only cost bout 10k (minus engine) to build (from what i heard somewhere)

the only problem I see is that if there were races on every weekend, then i’d never be able to do things on the weekend, cos i’d be sitting on the couch all weekend, every weekend.
As much as i love the sport, a fortnight off is great.
I’d rather there be a round every 2 weeks. I think thats regular enough.
But having Eastern Creek on, and then the Melb GP the weekend after is a bit rough. (on the teams)
Theres no way teams could afford to have 2 - 3 cars sitting in HQ.
I just dont see it happeneing any time soon.

there could never be enough V8’s for me-sorry Jamie. I tape the races so that I can see them over and over again.

i agree and disagree. i’d love to see more racing too, but when you think of the logistics, its not really plausible. and having them spaced apart, absence makes the heart grow fonder.
Mike 4:12 pm February 29th 2008
as good as more racing would be i dont think it would work out to well in the long run
Margaret Inness 4:21 pm February 29th 2008
As good as it would be for the fans it wouldnt be so good for the teams or the drivers. I think the drivers would get burnt out to quickly.
Doe 4:26 pm February 29th 2008
I’m happy with the amount or races there are but please no more street races they are to hard for us fans to see the track………..
Tacka 4:28 pm February 29th 2008
I know the cost & logistics are the main problems, but from the few drivers l have met. It’s like they can’t get enough of it…
Anyway bye for now IoI

I would love more racing, but i’m sure it’s already more then enough for all the drivers and they do visit every state.

V8’s would not be able to sustain 20+ rounds at this point in time. When you look to a system such as NASCAR they have been running since the 60’s or 70’s in various formats, but basically using the same formula. V8 Supercars in their current format are 12 years old.
The other point is that they do not get the media support. In America NASCAR is the second most watched sport, the pull crowd’s of 100,000+ for EVERY race weekend.
We would all love for this to happen, but what VESA needs to focus on is making the rounds we have bigger events. They need better promotion, they cannot be just another weekend of racing. They must be big events, and be pulling higher T.V ratings and track audiences, only then can they consider expanding the championship.
And lastly, if they want to make more rounds, or make each round more significant - GET OUT OF BAHRAIN!

While more racing would be good, there is finite money out there to finance it.
The teams also need time to get from the event back to their bases, turn around the cars and then get to the NEXT meeting.
There are also a finite number of volunteers to run the events - some events have problems getting enough people already. These people have to come from somewhere, and a concern is that this will be at the expense of grass roots motorsport events.
That said, there is generally plenty of motorsport happening - at State level you often get some really good racing happening.

I am happy with the feel of the current calander. We can’t hide the fact that some of the driver’s have brought their spot in the series… there are a lot of drivers in Fujitsu who have the skills (look at Owen’s performance during PI) yet may not be as competitive purely based on the amount of money they can bring to a team. Dean Canto has spoken out a lot about this. (Ref the GRM debate, I’m a big fan of those boys so I don’t get involved with specifics for this argument.)
The sport is trying to reduce the costs as it is to allow smaller teams the ability to compete on the same level as the factory teams. As said on the discussion board, extra rounds would increase this problem.
My point? If the sport is made even more costly, more drivers will buy their positions. Then we will have a sport that is based purely on how much money the family has (as the new guys often need support from family since they are kids), rather than on pure talent. Secondly, we will be making it even harder for new teams to enter the competition. (which could be a positive because they are trying to reduce the number of starting cars, and it will discourage Toyota from fighting to become a part of it!)
And, on a personal note, I enjoy the anticipation and excitement leading up to the round. If our races were on every weekend I would become lax and ‘miss’ rounds because I will have responsibilities to fulfill and I won’t be able to fit a whole weekend of V8’s in! It will also become very expensive if you are a fan that tries to attend all the meets in their area.

I thinnk there should be 1 or 2 more rounds it fells like before you know it were at the CLIPSAL 500 Then were at The Grand finale they should shorten the weekends of havening to wait which is what they are doing next year which is good just make the calendar longer and we will be all good
