What does everything about a possible move over to Ford?
RED-BLOODED Holden racer Todd Kelly is considering a switch to Ford.
"The former Bathurst winner, who is weighing his options after a disappointing season with Larry Perkins' Jack Daniel's-backed Holden team, is 13th in the V8 Supercar championship.
Stone Brothers Racing is looking for a new driver and backer for its No. 4 Falcon next year after the departure of James Courtney and sponsor Jeld-Wen.
Kelly and Jack Daniel's have both been mooted as possible candidates."

NEVER!!!!
I asked him at Bathurst and he said that he hadn’t even heard that rumour yet and seemed pretty surprised. I don’t think he’s moving over.
Anyway, I told him I would be very dissapointed if he did!!

Would be fine with me.
I’ve always liked Toddler with the exception of his comments after he punted Jamie off the track in NZ practice this year resulting in a zero point round for Jamie. Todd blamed Jamie for not giving Todd room to finish his off-track excursion. I always thought there was plenty of Larry Perkins’ influence in Todd’s response…

Hmmm, from all the reports that i’ve heard “and ok i wouldnt believe to much of it” is that Todd is reasonably happy at JDR. I think he thinks he can bring that team to where they were in 06, When Richards and if my memory is right, dumbrell were consitantly in the top 10.
Why did Perkins shoot themselves in the foot and run with 2 rookies last year, they should have used some forethought and sorta expect it no to really work out.
If i had my bet, i would say he’ll remain next yr, and depending how competitive they are. Will depend what occurs to him in 2010. But i can’t see him jumping to blue.

Personally, I would be very surprised if we don’t see Jason Bargwanna in the #4 mobile next year….

How many years have we heard these “Todd Kelly to Ford” rumours?? Seems like a regular topic of discussion in the silly season over the past few years. He really has dropped off the radar since his HRT days, so maybe a move to Ford it just what he needs. After the Hamilton incident I wouldn’t welcome him with open arms, but wouldn’t shut the door completely on him.
David Wood 10:33 am October 18th 2008
You are spot on Mel, the Todd Kelly to Ford rumour has been an annual occurance since about 2003…
Todd’s mananger probably throws it out there to try and up his bargaining power ! But seriously, I think Todd is still quite under-rated, and his dismissal from the factory fold was very strange. Todd is still young and can give a lot to Holden in coming years, yet they dispatch him. I wouldnt blame him to move if he did.
Perkins Team hasn’t really moved forward this year, even with Todd’s experience and this would no doubt be a source of frustration for him - especially as Dumbrell is tieing up a potentially race winning seat in the ‘family’ team.
Put it this way, if Ford HAD to have a Kelly, you would prefer it be Todd

“Put it this way, if Ford HAD to have a Kelly, you would prefer it be Todd”
Amen to that.

We had a big discussion about this issue around the campfire on Sunday night, 24 hours after I had asked him directly to guage the response. My new friends theory is that Todd would stay with Perkins at least another year because he can get more involved with the set-up and mechanical side of things, whereas the factory teams (Holden or Ford) are more likely to treat him merely as a ‘driver’. Look at his website, toddkelly.com.au, and you get the impression that he’s in it for more than just the driving.
Yet - I think he’s one of the best drivers in the field, and hasn’t been able to exhibit that this season.
Although I’m concerned (as voiced earlier), I still don’t think we’ll lose him. (If he were to move over, I’d be as upset with him as when CL moved over - I was a huge fan of Craig’s since he was a Young Lion!)
And Dumbrell is not using up ‘Todd’s’ spot - the brothers don’t want to be in the same team on a full-time basis. As lovely as Dumbrell is, the person I want to see take a Holden factory seat is Lethal.

If a Kelly had to come to Ford, Todd would be the better of the two. He is a sensible driver who deserves to be driving a good car. I have hardly seen him this year and out of all the holden drivers he has to be my favourite. I will support him in blue oval land.

*throws a tantrum*
No no no no no no no. Todd is staying with us!
And so is Rick - I like him too.
Trevor Murphy 2:22 pm October 18th 2008
He,s got the talent , just needs the car , as long as his idiot brother doesn,t follow !
Would love to see Greg Murphy in a Ford
Muz... 2:23 pm October 18th 2008
Yep, I would definitely support Todd at SBR….I put a possible Todd/SBR livery up on my profile if you want to check it out.
Casey Phoenix 2:42 pm October 18th 2008
KEEP YOUR GRUBBY HANDS OFF GUYS! Your’e not having our boys! First Todd, and now Murph?!!?!?
I’ll mark my territory… you’re not having either Kellys, Murph, Jase, Lee, Caruso, GT or Skaifey. And you can’t have Ingall back either.
I’ve peed on those 9 trees and will actively defend my territory if required!
I’m sure Carley would back me up.
Cindy Gaffey 3:00 pm October 18th 2008
The Kelly boys are holden through and through. Neither of them would ever go Ford.
Stephen 3:01 pm October 18th 2008
I agree with Casey’s 1.30 pm post.
Todd (after apparently being evicted from HRT - notice how he has NO interest in returning to that fold) was clearly looking forward to having personal input to the engineering aspects of the team. His driving was excellent in his latter HRT days, overshadowing Skaife and it seems to me he was seen by Skaife as another threat to his ego. Doesn’t seem many #2 drivers leave HRT on good terms with Skaife…
I really thought Perkins’ team team would leap ahead with Toddler’s input but hasn’t really been able to make it happen.
I think he’d be a good asset to any team.
David Wood 3:36 pm October 18th 2008
“”"The Kelly boys are holden through and through. Neither of them would ever go Ford.”"”"
They said the same thing about Lowndes. And Ingall.
Casey, I would be quite happy for you to keep Murph, Rick Kelly, GT, Skaife.. the lot.
Ford don’t really need any more ‘Guns’, the rifle cupboard is as full as a Truckie’s lunch box as it is !!
We will start with Jamie, then throw in CL, Winterbottom, Steve Richards, Jason Bright, Will Davison (and possibly Alex as well in 2009) Mr Fabulous Coulthard, Courtney, Probably Bargs and let’s not leave out the rapidly developing Shane Van Gisbergen.
That is a pretty damn good stable right there. No wonder Holden can’t win….
The fundamental issue Holden faces now and in the near future is their heavy reliance on a chosen few, and too many seats are taken up by blokes who (dare i say it) simply aren’t good enough - by that i mean aren’t race winners and probably never will be.
we all know who they are….
Stephen 3:40 pm October 18th 2008
Top of that list is Skaife…!
David Wood 3:54 pm October 18th 2008
I wasn't going to name names Stephen
But yes, Mr Skaife is up there….along with Dumbrell, Andrew Jones, Tony D'Alberto….
If you have a look at this years current championship table, 6 of the first 7 are Fords. And this is not because of a 'aero parity issue'. The only parity issue is the quality and form of the drivers.
Going back to Todd, he was a race winner and front runner when he was with WP (HRT). In the factory stable, HRT/HSVDT, Todd was sacked and effectively replaced in the stable by Paul Dumbrell. With Skaife 'Occupying' Todd's old seat at HRT, this effectively leaves Tander and (on rare occasions) Rick Kelly to do the winning.
2 against 7-8 Ford winning cars… do the math and you soon realise why Holden are copping a hiding….
