Sequential Gearbox

Jamie,

How are you finding the change (didnt mean the pun!) from the H pattern shift to sequential this year. Has it made much of a difference. Is it easier to drive with less fatigue?

Do you guys have a digital readout telling you what gear it’s in? and are there any failsafes to prevent you from knocking it twice instead of once and selecting too low a gear?

do they automatically engage/disengage the clutch, or do you still bang it through matching road speed to engine revs? do they still have that spark arrestor thingy that the old H boxes had, that cut spark when you were shifting to enable you to flat shift?

Am i asking WAYYYY too many questions?

i’d always hit down one too many times and compression lock it i recon

I noticed on the incar shots of Jamie, he seemed to be hitting the clutch with every shift up and down.

Richard, now you mention it, i vagely remember thinking that on the day.

i would have thought this’d make things a bit slower, instead of doing it clutchless (at least the straight throws) like last year.

I read somewhere that Adelaide was meant to be a track that suited the sequential. Don’t know if that’s true or not but if it is, does anyone know which gearbox would best suit Eastern Creek?

True but he’s busy tonight. Need to get all the info I can for tipping. Those minor places can really help!

Sorry guys I am back online. The new box was very very different, it was good but we still need more time to master it.

I use the gearbox exactly the same as the H pattern as far as the clutch is concerned. Actually the only thing that ha changed is the direction you push the stick. I still skip gears like I used to, I compress the clutch and instead of going from one gate to another I just push the stick quickelly 2,3, 4 times.

We still run a gear cut, so no backing off the throttle on the up change.

There is minor change with 3rd gear in the sequential but it is too small to feel a difference on the track so any talk of gearboxes suiting tracks is dribble. In my opinion of course!

I should leave it at that, but one more :D

Can you change which direction does what (i.e. your car have it forward for downshift, Craigs car you pull back for downshift?)

I am sure you will be able to by changing the internals of the gear box, but the best way is pull back for up shift, forward for down shift.

At the start I kept thinking it was a motorbike with 1 up, 5 down. But it is just 6 down.

ah, so it’s not a simple linkage swap or electronically controlled like some WRC cars.
