I don’t mind the overseas rounds, as long as they aren’t replacements for our aussie races.

V8 supercars is no doubt the best sedan based series in the world, so why not send them there, on the flip side, it helps holdens sales, as they export to these countries, ford on the other hand dont, so they look abit out f place on the track over there (people dont know what they are)
i would love to see V8s back at several tracks in Oz before they go overseas, but meh, what ever makes the sport better for teams,, sponsors & drivers

Im up for more racing where ever it may be as long as it doesnt pinch any of the existing rounds from Aus etc. Plus there probably wouldn’t be great attendance or merchandise profits to be made.

i agree - i dont mind them going overseas - as long as they dont take any rounds away from OZ.
At first i thought the whole idea was crap (years ago i am talking) because the v8’s were mine (lol i am a control freak!), and didnt want them going commercial…… but i guess this is what happens when sports develop and need to bring more money in…… as long as they keep OUR rounds here, i dont care where else they go!

Most of our rounds are safe id say, some are needing a kick up the ass for attendance but $$$ is keeping us (and those red lion fans) happy and at the track.
from what i gather Singapore would be an extra round. being in the sport industry - it makes sense to me. globalisation of EPL lead man u to being the biggest soccer team in the world. the more OS rounds we get the bigger slice of the motorsport pie we get - V8 drivers are far more likeable and Asia likes sharing neighbours. it leads to higher costs yes, but it is the only sustainable way of us not having 6 weeks between races mid season.
and besides, theyre still ours, and we could get an increased field again if it goes well.

Im with you too Lindy,
We definatly want to keep our rounds here in AU, but unfortunatly we cant control that.
I was at the first round in Shanghai, and the track and racing was great, bought home some great memorabilia.
I also spoke to a few big wigs over there, and they indicated to me then that it was enevitable that the series would go O/S sooner or later, as that is where the big money is.
Cocrane said to me that he had just about finished talks with Barain, and then moving on to Singapore.
I thought that he may have been talking up the sport, but turns out NOT…
Shanghai was a geat track to be at, and experiance the first round O/S.
I will post a few pics on when we where there..
Thanks
David

I remember watching the China round on TV a few years ago - what struck me was that the grandstand on the main straight was EMPTY !!!! Who exactly are these rounds geared at ?!?!?! Obviously not the aussie or NZ fans, but purely for the cash injection V8SCA receive ? Bahrain’s first round was also pretty empty - will this year attract more overseas fans ? Personally, I think V8SCA is trying to turn the sport into Nascar, with very poor results. Just my opinion…..

I am not too keen on Overseas rounds unless you can get a great attendence record and enhance the image of v8s to these other countries. I agree with Rebecca how empty the stands were at bahrain, when if it was an australian round you would have in the tens of thousands of fans attend. But it in saying that the singapore round being touted as the next overseas journey interests me, I saw a preview of it in auto action and it looks pretty snazzy and you would probably get a few more at that race, plus what a cool holiday destination, (although anywhere the v8s go is a good excuse for a holiday haha). But finally i dont want to see all these overseas racings being put on at the expense of Australia rounds. As long a we keep most of the Aussie rounds (or all really) and put the odd one or two overseas rounds in it shouldnt be too much of a problem, but choose more appropriate areas where you could get extra fans - how about around a nascar round course or something. All those new American fans of ambrose can come out you might get more of a turnout then china or bahrain. Sorry that was my 2 cents worth well nearly $1.00 lol

I think it depends on the aim of the v8 supercars…. is it for car sales… the drivers… the fans… the $$$… and how much o/s really cares about the V8’s. I’m not sure how much of a response it is having globally so I can’t really comment too much on that.
I think Bahrain was truly disappointing last year. The telecast was really bad on Channel 7 and online + it was not such a good round for JW.
I just remember going to bed at 2am in the morning cranky as high hell because of the dodgy broadcast, the poor sportsmanship on track, the lack of supporters in the stand… and the hour that it was broadcast (which of course can’t be helped cos it is o/s…) plus everything that happened with JW. I was yelling and carrying on … and it wasn’t the best time of day to do so. But that was just me - V8’s get me all revved up
And that was one round that stood out from last year as getting me particularly riled up. Not a fan of Bahrain at the moment! (unless this year turns out to be ok - I have faith in JW :D)
Anyhow… if the drivers don’t mind going over there and we aren’t losing any rounds in Australia, it doesn’t matter too much to me. Channel 7 and Bigpond just need to pick up their game so we can still watch it without the broadcasts dropping out. (Unless I was the only one with this problem)
Just a little possessive of the v8’s I am
Plus I don’t like how everything is about $$$ these days.
