Out of curiousity….O/T

OK, let me preface this by saying I am one of those people that is ALWAYS thinking and wondering about the universe in general. Like where do flies go when it's dark. Or why do we all have different accents, even within Australia?. Or not have a universal language??

Anyway, I had a thought a few weeks ago, and I've asked all of my family and friends and quite frankly, I've been staggered by the result.

My question is this…..if you woke up tomorrow, and you were either deaf or blind, which would you choose to be. And please know, I'm not trying to offend anyone, it's just something I wondered.

Me, I would choose to be blind. I could live in a world of darkness, but not in a world that was silent. Music is like air to me, and if I couldn't hear it, I would be miserable. Sur it would be sad not to be able to see, but you can always hear what people are saying and use the sense of touch and use your imagination as to what something looks like.

So…..how about you guys?. I'm really interested in your opinions!

Again sorry if you feel this is a waste of time……

The problem is if you become totally deaf, then your speech would deteriorate. Therefore not only would you be deaf but you would also be a mute. However being blind would not be a favorable outcome either.

I don’t know about you but I find it hard not to think about V8’s at school. I will be in class and any issues going on will just keep being thought over in my head. Like today with the whole HSVDT/ Opes Prime fiasco.
Just goes to show I should get the job I want of P/R man or commentator within the V8 industry…..

Thank you so much Leanne! Your curiosity has lead to the perfect idea that I need to write a short story in the genre of Speculative Fiction tomorrow!!!!
Cheers!

I’m not here to offend anyone either, but it has got me thinking too, much along the same lines of the “where does a fly go in the dark” and “if a tree falls in the forest…”. Can deaf people hear themselves. Ok, bear with me on this one. You know when you block your ears and hum or talk- you can hear yourself kind of amplified in your head. Even tho deaf people cannot hear any outside sound, can they hear thier own sounds, or is it totally silent?
In that case, I would take the Blind option.

How long until this discussion is removed…?

That is something I’ve thought about myself. I love music and the general sounds around you (wind, rain, birds singing, laughter etc etc) but I really don’t like the dark…..also I figure you would be a lot more independant (also very important to me) if you could see, so I guess I would rather be deaf than blind.

Well as I am very slowly going blind I guess I’d rather be blind, getting used to the idea of not seeing….but I do love the fact that I’ve had sight in my life so far and I so apprieciate it sooo much!!so glad for modern technology too otherwise I may not be able to see as much as I do thanks to contact lenses and glasses:)

If i had a choice of being deaf or blind with out question i would choose to be deaf its a very easy choice .

Here is a test walk outside and block your ears and walk around a bit, then change and cover your eyes and walk around a bit, i found in doing this little test it seamed much worse not being able to see than it did not being able to here.

To me being blind would be much worse than being deaf.

I’m 24 and still afraid of the dark so I would definitely say deaf! If you’re deaf you can still watch tv with subtitles, use the computer/internet to communicate, read books and magazines, etc. and you don’t need help to go out to the shops or anything.

Andrew - You’re welcome! Glad I could help your creativity :-)

Richard, I have asked around 50 people this question so far, and YOU are the first person to say blind! Everyone else has said they would prefer to be deaf. That was what really piqued my curiosity….I wondered if there was anyone out there that would choose sound over sight.

For everyone that said deaf, you all have really good reasons too.

Thanks for your feedback so far guys :-)
