NASCAR the Future for JW??

I don't know if this has ever previoulsy been discussed, I have had a quick flick through previous threads and haven't noticed anything…

I read in the Sun Herald this morning that JW wants to follow in Marcos Ambrose's footsteps and compete in the US in NASCAR in the future.

From what I can gather it will not be immediate, obviously his contract with Team Vodaphone is not due to expire for awhile and he still has things he wants to achieve in V8 Supercars but he says "I can't see myself racing V8 Supercars for the next decade, I look at Marcos in NASCAR and think that might be where my future is…"

Any thoughts?

LOL well, at least it will be a few years off and he might change his mind in the meantime, but it can only mean good things for his career, even though he will be missed in the V8’s!

LOL yes it would be a good excuse!!

Happy Easter All :)

Ohhh I dont want Jamie to leave V8’s. Although I understand it would be good for his career. But I have already lost one favourite driver to nascar damnit lol! Dont wanna lose another. But if thats the course he does want to take, lets hope he stays in v8s for another 5-10 years first cause I reckon he could still do a lot in v8s. Become one of the greatest of all time even! Cause he is well on his way at the moment. But when and if he does announce a departure from v8s its going to be a very sad day in my life! But if he does I hope he succeeds!! I do like Nascar but I really think V8s is one of the best motorsport categories in the world!

it was discussed briefly in an interview last year (or the year before - i cant remember) and he said that or Uk… I have to agree with Montanna - I changed to 888 when Ambrose went to the US and i so dont want to do that again - i thought 3rd time was lucky!

Yeah he said something similar in an inteview on v8extra last year, but I was hoping you know coming so close in the championship last year, he might of changed his mind lol. Yes when Marcos headed off to America, I jumped on the Whincup express lol cause he reminded me a lot of Ambrose. So it will be sad to see him possibly leave, although then Nascar will be starting to collect a lot of my fav drivers lol might have to move to America. I guess it would be good for his career and all but Marcos is flying the aussie flag well but still hasnt got that elusive win yet,

Craig Lowndes just said the same thing on RPM, that he think’s Jamie might be interested in Nascars!

Yep, I also saw Craig say that, and i heard Jamie meantion it in an interview while in Adelaide for the Clipsal this year as a possible future path. But hopefully it won’t happen too soon, & he still has to win the V8 championship. As long as he doesn’t forget about us here in Aus!

argh! i keep missing v8xtra and only watched a tiny bit of rpm today, but didnt see CL!!!!
so annoying!!!!!!!!

back to the topic,
Yes, it will be sad to see jamie go, but would be an unreal thing for him to do!
And who says that he’ll be in nascars forever? he may eventually come back to v8s - when he’s coming close to retiring lol.

:D

I reckon that Jamie would want to think long and hard before making that move.

Marcos Ambrose is hardly setting the world on fire on the ovals and doesn’t look like winning a Nationwide oval race anytime soon, never mind a Sprint Cup race. In fact I would say he has almost gone backwards from last year.

Mind you, Marcos is probably still making more money than he would in V8 Supercar.

It would be great though if Marcos was to replace James Courtney at Stone Brothers next year.

Haha Chris that would be awesome for Marcos to do that but unfortunately he has said a number of times that he cant ever see himself back in the v8s permanetly. He still has interest in winning bathurst but unfortunately thats as far as it goes :(.
But I was shocked when he did head overseas and he started out realy well and he still seems happy, but I reckon it would be so hard to be on top in one category for so long then come mid pack for most races in another category you would have to miss those winning ways eventually. But i guess if anyone can do it Ambrose is certainly one and Jamie could probably give it a good shot, but I think he has a lot more to do in v8s first, plus all of us would miss him sooo much lol!

I agree with you Montanna.

I reckon that Ambrose would have been counting on being a bit more successful by now . Also, reading between the lines, I’m wondering if the move to USA has strained personal relationships.

I wouldn’t be surprised if a return to V8 Supercar Is looking more attractive to him than it was twelve months ago.

Nic

Nic 7:37 pm March 23rd 2008

It’d be pretty hard with a youngin - but being the strange thing i am i seem to remember marcos saying he never sold the farm in Qld so maybe it was in the back of his mind when he left.

and yes i do need a life outside sport.

If Jaime was to go to Nascar I would be dissappointed to see him go but at the end of the day its his choice. Let him go and get it out of his system lol and then maybe he might come back lol.

what strain on personal relationships are you refering to chris?

Marcos wont be heading home soon - he still has unfinished business there!

Chris Gayguy

Chris Gayguy 9:54 am March 24th 2008

Linda, I was referring to reports that his wife and child allegedly came back to Australia for an extended period of time last year, leaving Ambrose alone in the states.

I’m just reading between the lines and my comment is based on no solid facts whatsoever.
