yeah but his retirement looks likely to move will davidson over to hrt, I would rather have skafe tooling around than lose will to the red side!

from what many shows have been saying, he is going to retire, and Will to go into the #2 ride.

He wont retire this year, he will run a car prepared by TWR as a separate entry (go green racing, backed by Holden) and have one more year as a send off at each round, similar to what John Bowe did. So yes you will see Will join Tander at HRT next year.

That is certainly the rumour Bennouch… It looks quite a strong possibility that Unky tom will acquire the PWR licence to run a 3rd entity to promote Mobil’s new E85 ‘Green’ fuels, and this seems to be where Mr Skaife will be slotted in the WP musical chairs contest.

Will Davison will take over ‘#22′.

Either that, Or Skiafey will hang up the helmet. But there is one thing that has stayed a Skaife hallmark throughout his entire career - ego….. Ego says that Skaife will want to go out on a ‘high’ and but rattling around for one more year he may believe that that ‘high’ will come to him.

Released from the responsbility of owning and managing HRT, this could give Skaifey the chance to re-focus and regain some form. He is only 41, so it is certainly not beyond the realms of possibility that this is just a slump… Although he looks noticebly fatter in the face and his form of late has been a disgrace.

I personally feel he won’t hang it up yet - at least while Russell is still going…

I agree with u David. If skaife announces his retirement we’ll have another season with him doing his swan song.

It will be a shame to lose Will to the d evil.

more like swan dive than swan song… ;-)

As a ford supporter, over the years we have endured repeated distress at the sight of Skaife consistantly winning and swaggering around the place - first with Nissan, then with Holden. Although nobody likes to see a good champion stagger into a sacking to end their career, I am quite enjoying the hammering he is taking at the moment and would love for it to go on for another year, or two :-)

Sort of evens up the balance for the multiple Bathurst and championship dominations and the pot shots at the Ford fellows on forums like V8 Superstars.

Lots of blokes still punt around, waiting for the perfect ‘finish’ to their careers that form suggests might never come. Very few achieve the feat of ‘going out on a high’ - mainly because that ‘high’ leads them to think that they arent quite done for after all and they go on only to realise the time to retire was back at the ‘aforementioned’ high. It happens in a lot of sports, football in particular.

A great champion knows when it is time. John Bowe admitted candidly at Phillip Island last year that we was well past it. Bravo JB.

As for Will, he is the ideal candidate for HRT as he has developed a nasty habit over the last season or two for biffing off other leading falcons - a certain dayglo and silver one in particular. I am sure this form would have impressed Snappy Tom, hence is appointment to the lead ‘imperial battle cruiser’ ;-)

The best thing for Ford is for Skaife to stay on, bringing down HRT’s overall performance. Won’t happen, of course.

BIG shame to see Will got to Hol, Hold, Ho, you know, that other mob.

The most absolute revelation in Project Blueprint has been that, given equal opportunity, Skaife has shown no indication that he is superior to anyone else. He won everything in brands that had clear domination in their time. It’s one thing to have all the trophies, it’s another to prove that you were actually better than everyone else. Blueprint provided that opportunity. What a magnificent revealation!

Odds on he will do one final final Skaife ego-trip-around-the-country next year to say “goodbye to the fans”. lol
The green car sounds like a fitting marketing vessel for it to happen.

Bathurst great Skaife quits V8s
By Guy Hand13:13 AEST Wed Oct 29 2008

View more Super Stories > Five-time Bathurst 1000 winner Mark Skaife has announced his retirement from fulltime V8 Supercar racing.

Skaife is among the sport's greatest champions, winning five Bathursts and five Australian touring car championships in a career which started in a Nissan Gazelle in 1987.

The 41-year-old retires with more touring car/V8 round wins than any other driver, taking out 40 of the 211 rounds he has contested.

With fellow V8 champions including Craig Lowndes and Garth Tander looking on, Skaife drew the curtain on his full-time driving career in Melbourne after more than a decade as Holden's highest-profile driver.

Skaife admitted the decision to quit had been difficult, but acknowledged it was the right time to move on.

"Motor racing has been my life for the past 21 years, and as any professional sportsman will attest, if you have a love and passion for what you are doing, then retirement is not something you ever easily consider," Skaife said.
