Mark Beretta can't commentate for shit

Fair dinkum, the V8s are turning into a joke with brekky show hosts and weathermen commentating.
Mark Baretta was a joke today taking Matty Whites place and Daniel Gibson is even worse. Thank god he wasnt Neil's co commentator. Remember the Channel 10 days of Daz and Rusty in the pits. Now we have Sunrise weathermen. Denyer isn't too bad but comes up with some ordinary jokes. Neil Crompton is the one holding the whole show together.

Am i the only one who cant stand these weathermen commentating on our V8s?

I think you need ur head read… Beretta is better at commentating than Matty White and Aaron Noonan put together…

It’s time to go….. NOONZ!!!

sorry… just my opinion… or will freedom of speech over rule this comment of mine?

Might have to disagree Blair. Sure, Beretta is a little rusty but Daniel does a good job and I am pretty sure that Grant had an interest in motorsport before he had an interest in commentating.

Noonan is a walking encyclopedia which cannot be forgotten.

All these guys have talent!

Having said that, I still love the days of Baz, Daz, Mark Oastler, Bill Woods and Leigh Diffey……

If one had to be deleted, I would have to say Briony….

I Don’t mind what they’re doing. I don’t take notice of commentating, I think people are more focused on the racing.

I agree with you wholeheartedly Alecx !!!! Noonan is an absolute TOOL who has no idea about motorsport and is constantly suffering from Foot in mouth disease !!

Grant Boyden does a better job at pitlane reporting than Grant Denyer will ever do !

And Marie, I agree with you about Briony - what were they thinking……………. fluff on tv does not make good motorsport

How did Larko go yesterday in the pits?

I agree Blair. Last round was a total joke. Can’t say I’ve been listening to what they’ve been saying this Round cos they annoy me too much - I believe what I said after last round is that I’m going to attend every V8 round in 09 just because Channel 7 is CRAP. Channel 7 is why I don’t watch tv any more!!

Channel 7 are a bunch of moron’s who have no idea about telecasting motorsport. They are too focused on making it happy families by using their newsreaders and weathermen as commentators. Thank goodness I haven’t seen Koch on there this year or I probably would have had to hurt myself to take away the pain.

Did anyone hear last round where they said “Wintercup”. And the time they take to replay incidents is disgraceful. Who wants to see a shot of Tanders head as he drives all the way into the pits - or someone drive a complete drive through penalty when there’s more action on track or replays to be watched? There are so many times Crompton has had to correct or cover up for the stupid comments made. I feel sorry for him because he’s the only one who knows what he’s talking about.

Just think about the guys that call horse racing and the football - they don’t make half the mistakes these guys are making and it’s so blatantly obvious who drives which car.

I’d be embarrassed if I didn’t know the names of all the drivers, which car they were in, what part of the track they are driving on etc etc… but obviously some people have no shame.

And we wonder why the V8’s struggle to have a decent following in this country…

One reason = Channel 7

Alot of people seem to disagree with me on this one which is a bit suprising. I agree Rach, just imagine if it was Kochie hosting it with Mel reporting in the pits. All of them apart from Cromley are on 7 news. Gibson (weatherman), Matty White ( 7 news Sydney), Baretta ( Sunrise) and Denyer was on Sunrise for years, however he isn’t as bad as his fellow pit reporters as he worked for Ch10 in the early 2000s and atleast he knows his motorsport. For anyone who has seen Daniel Gibson on the Prime ( Ch7) weather, they will know how lame he really is,and i cant believe we have this knob commentating on the V8s.

To answer your question Muz, Larko went pretty good in the pits. Its people like him that we need as pit reporters, people who are in the V8 industry, not people who are Ch 7 newsreaders come pit reporters.
A few rounds ago Bargs had a crack at pit reporter and did a great job. He was technical and could explain how things work, not only what happens like Gibbo and Baretta do.

Thank god Channel 7 did a good job at Bathurst last year and they give the event alot of publicity in the lead up. Hopefully the telecast this year will be a decent job too.

I’ve seen Gibbo doing the weather, I must say I think he may need to be in an institution. I like Grant, don’t mind Baretta, Cromley is the best for the commentating and it would be great if they could keep Larko on. I reckon Larko could stir ‘em up in the pits!

I agree with you Blair, I dont think Mark Beratta was the right person to be the main commentating role this weekend. Bring back Matty White I think he does a lot better. I do miss Bill Woods though when he was the lead anchor on Channel Ten but I do think Matty still does a very good job. Beratta is okay in the pits, but I did enjoy them having Mark Larkham in the pits. Its great to have some old faces wondering around giving us some detail into the goings on!

I have to say though I dont really agree with everyone dishing Grant, I think he does a really good job and he has the racing background as well to explain things thoroughly. Yeah he makes some funny and not funny jokes but he lives and breathes the sport so it makes it worthwhile listening to him!

Neil Crompton is definitely the glue that hold it all together though. He is a legend and i love listening to him commentating. Lets hope he never retires from commentating!

I know a lot of people really dont like him but…….. I have to say I love it when Skaifey is commentating with Neil. Its hilarious! Those two together made me forget about Beratta!! I think its a hoot and Skaifey when he does retire may find himself with a commentating positon.

i thought larko was great yesterday muz but when mark was commentating i thought that some of his comments were more of a comment that a pit repoter would make not a host

Christa

Christa 7:52 pm August 3rd 2008

Honestly, I don’t care who commentates, but so long as Crompton is there and so long as a microphone is shoved in a driver’s face after a crash straight away, and before they have time to cool down!!!!
I have to agree though that Beretta doesn’t know enough to commentate - can’t beat an ex-racer who has first hand experience.
We do most of the commentating in our household anyway with our yelling, cheering and bickering (was fun clipsal in our household - i’m sbr and partner’s 888). So really, so long as we’re actually getting shown the races on TV and aren’t getting these half snippets of race highlights instead of the full race, I’m very happy!

Totally un-related, I just have to say that I’d love to be in the position to be able to fire JC’s pit crew - I was crushed today!

What are you guys winging about…….I would rather Channel 7 do it then nothing……..If we want V8’s we cant be picky what channel there on…The job gets done and we get to watch it…….Sure they have a few little stuff ups but heyy Channel 10 did as well!!

Their commentaters my be losers but We still get to hear the drivers go of and call other drivers names just after they get hit of the track!!!!!!!

Mark Larkham is the driver standards officer for the Carrera cup, he is also the former owner of Larkham/Orrcon Racing and is the man that brought Mark Winterbottom into V8 Supercars. In 2005 he went into a joint partnership with Craig Gore at WPS racing, before leaving the V8 Scene.

This year he has also been a regular guest presenter on V8Xtra. I would therefore say that Mark Larkham knows quite a bit about v8 supercar racing, and motor racing in general… thought he did a great job on the weekend…

no offence but they should have left larko on the farm with his bulls.
