There is now some talk the Jacques may replace Paul Morris in the number 67 Commodore for the 2009 session. As most if not all of you would know that Paul Morris and Marcos Ambrose own a business together, being the V8 Super School in Qld. Ambrose and Villeneuve know each other from NASCAR.
Could be interesting having an ex F1 driver/champion in the field next year. Our little old V8's are getting more popular around the world. Gotta love Australia and our V8's!!!!!

you are quite wrong Jordan, it could be very likely, Ben has it right. Paul has stated this aswell as it being on the news, you need to watch what you say and how you say it aswell as getting your facts!!
..::COREY::.. 9:47 am January 9th 2009
yeah im with you riley get your facts right before you say or type something Jordan

Maybe it is a bit of pie in the sky, but you cant deny the rumour….
Personally, I think Steve Owen would be a much better pick. And probably crash less cars….
Casey Phoenix 11:59 am January 9th 2009
Agrees with David. I’ll be surprised if Owen doesn’t get the drive.
Ben Siemon 3:09 pm January 9th 2009
Steve Owen and Dean Canto should both be back in the main game and for that matter so should Luke Youlden! They would be far less money than Jacques but he will make it interesting.
jamiefan25 4:33 pm January 9th 2009
lets hope does happen

This is that last thing the sport needs. So much for giving the Aussie talent ago. The hard work that the DVS drivers do to try to get to the main series is huge. The ones who have commited themselves to V8’s need to be given a chance or in some cases another chance to drive main game V8’s.
David Wood 6:07 pm January 9th 2009
Bravo Josh…. my thoughts exactly. Why import a F1 has-been who is full of his own PR from 1996, when we have much better talent right here pining for a crack. Don’t do it Paul - give a young aussie a go….
sophie 6:46 pm January 9th 2009
i agree josh i would rather see young aussie talent but then again i wouldent hate it if he came i think it would be good to have a new top contender.

I am with JL!
“Steve Owen and Dean Canto should both be back in the main game and for that matter so should Luke Youlden! They would be far less money than Jacques but he will make it interesting.”
Luke has never raced full time in the mani game though. But I think he would mix it up.

This is a far bigger issue than choosing between an up-and-coming talent and a former F1 World Champion in terms of driving ability.
Paul Morris is a businessman, and in being that, Super Cheap Auto Racing is his business. So here are a some points of advantage in hiring Villeneuve:
1. He is more than just a racer. He allows Morris to make more contacts overseas. JV has raced in Europe, and America and therefore will open up more opportunities for Morris.
2. If we look at the current global economic status, JV means he will attract media attnetion and sponsors, meaning financially PMM becomes a stable organisation.
3. He is a successful F1 driver, and despite some of the opinions that have been viewed here, I have no doubt he would work out how these cars run, and learn how to drive them…he’s no David Thexton.
4. He wouldn’t drive as a publicity stunt…he has showed genuine interest in V8’s before (As has Jenson Button FYI)
5. It would also aid the growth of V8 Supercars on the whole, making more people ‘aware’ of the sport. This theory does work, like Australians taking an interest in NASCAR due to Ambrose taking part in the series.
However, the argument against Villeneuve is just as valid. There is an undoubted plethora of driving talent in Australia, however alot of this already fails to surface due to the almighty dollar. No-one knows for certain that Jonathon Webb, or Steve Owen etc. were promised the PMM seat. Often getting a drive in the main game takes more effort than just good results, and perhaps they have not pushed hard enough to get that seat, but that is just pure speculation.
For all we know, Owen or whoever else has already picked up a drive elsewhere and this is not such a big issue.
As for those saying even Dean Canto should get the drive, he has already re-signed with FPR for this years enduro’s - and Luke Youlden needs to run in the Fujitsu series consistnently to stake his claim.
This issue is a large rumour, and if it works out will be fantastic, both from the fans, sports and PMM’s view. I for one would love to see Jaques line up in Adelaide - how many former F1 world champions will be on the grid in the forseeable future?
Just sit tight, and let these events play out, and whatever happens happens…we are looking like we will have a great line up of drivers for this years championship!
Josh Ladner 7:51 pm January 9th 2009
But your still missing the point Muz, I have spoken to many people today from the world of Australian motorsport who are now concerned that v8 teams will try to get “high profile drivers” from overseas instead of using what talent we have been depeloping here.
I dont know about everyone but eventhough I follow Ambrose, I have no interest in NASCAR what so ever.So this theory dosnt work.
Muz 7:57 pm January 9th 2009
Ok, I also understand what you are saying Josh, but my opinion is pretty clear on this issue. But I do fully understand and empathize with your point.
But just to show what this could do for the sport, here are some links posted by Motu 34 on V8 Central, and I had a great time reading them!

I understand what it could to for V8 Supercars Australia, but when youve talked to people in the sport, they are more concerned about the drivers, not the money
Muz 8:12 pm January 9th 2009
Then, as a point of discussion - could this be the turning point where V8 Supercar begins to poutgrow it’s Australian pedigree?
In the next 10-15 years, could we see the series increaslingly going to overseas rounds, however at the same time, raising the profile of the Fujitsu series to where the main game is today?
I belive the ‘path’ to the championship series needs to be redefined and made cleaer, and V8 Supercars needs to change format, location and the aim of the series. It needs to grow to survive and the lesser categories need to grow with it.
I have a vision!….LOL (But seriously I do…watch out TC lol)
Josh Ladner 8:27 pm January 9th 2009
TC has to go. Yes he is a nice bloke to talk to, but he has some crazy ideas. More international rounds, hes off his rocker. I wont comment on the Fujitsu series yet. But I will in time.
ANDREW MORRISON 11:20 pm January 9th 2009
Morris has said he needs $2M to pay for JV. Big ask to get a sponsor for that much in the current climate.
Riley C 5:46 am January 10th 2009
haha Muz, i enjoyed reading them threads on the links you posted.
Casey Phoenix 6:55 am January 10th 2009
Muz: “Often getting a drive in the main game takes more effort than just good results,”
Very very true. Just ask Dean Canto. It takes more than talent to get a drive with GRM. Mummy and Daddy’s money is the primary factor.
