Firstly congratulations on your victory. Nice work Jamie. Cant do any better than that!
I have a question that eventually saw the demise of Craig in Race 2. On 2 occasions I saw Craig trying to pass Winterbottom and Courtney under brakes at turn 9, where Craig was pushed to the very right of the track, way off the racing line.
It looked to me like Winterbottom and Courtney were being too aggressive in their blocking, both times Craig was well along side, but he was still being blocked unfairly in my view.
What is the go with that. Where do you draw the line. Seems to me Craig got a Bum Deal …

i think they really need to review the rules of passing and blocking.
Robert Mellor 6:39 pm February 24th 2008
This really needs to be sorted out with the AVESCO guys quick smart because it seems no-one really knows ‘what’ the rules are…
Catherine Black 8:18 pm February 24th 2008
Since when is no-one really knows the rules, new for this sport
But I agree, they definately need to start defining the rules and have the same rules in place all the time, no exceptions. It will be particularly important when we get to other street circuits, which are as tight and narrow as Adelaide, eg: Hamilton, Albert Park and Indy.
All FPR seemed to do all weekend was whinge about getting overtaken by the team vodafone cars
Speaking of drivers getting bum deals, Jr Johnson tops the lot! Major, major stuff up.
Stephen-The Marsdenator 8:26 pm February 24th 2008
amen to that, Jr Johnson was doing damn well too….
Devilish Chick 8:33 pm February 24th 2008
Well said Catherine Re: Junior, I agree that was a major stuff up and yet another rule that needs clarification….
I thought Tomas Mezera wouldve been smarter than that, obviously I was wrong…

as much as I love team vodafone, Craig was his own worst enemy in race two, Craig was closing in on Courtney who really had no where to go, wall on one side Craig on the other, 3 fords taken out in one go,with no points in the second race. Sometimes it’s better to finish third than to not finish at all. Jnr was hard done by, and if Tander had passed Jamie the way Jamie got past frosty we would all be crying for blood!

I think the “blocking” was amplified by the fact that the race track is so wide going into turn nine and there is so much scope going into that corner to block. But the guy doing the blocking needs to have some common sense as well and know when to concede. In Winterbottom’s case he was clearly not as fast, so he should have just let to pass go. Courtney’s block was waaaay too aggressive as well pushing Craig into the dirty line (and almost the wall).

Glenn is that how V8 racing works , someone catches up to you and you let them pass?
Kelly OShea 9:22 pm February 24th 2008
I notice that craig was getting blocked by rick in race 2.
Devilish Chick 9:24 pm February 24th 2008
Well, it all depends on the situation really….
…if another car has caught up to you from a distance under green conditions, then the driver really needs to ask himself, “do i have the car to fight and is it worth fighting if i might end up in the wall or off the track and lose the spot anyway and a few points”….if the answer is “yes” then it would be a smart move to just let them pass!!!

Do you honestly believe Craig is sitting there tonight saying that was a great day? I am sure there were instances we he could of backed of and made a clean pass later on, if his car was so much quicker. As far as James pushing Craig onto the dirty line, Craig was behind James and he chose to try and pass on that line , instead of tucking in behind.
Adam Allford 9:55 pm February 24th 2008
my understanding was that you were allowed one move to block, and if they darted the other way, then you would be penalised for changing direction again to block. if that was the case (and i’m often wrong
), then the moves would be legal. but i agree, they looked a bit dodgy on the day.

Believe me nothing would make me happier than a Team Vodafone 1-2 finish, but not at the cost of knocking other cars ( especially fords )out of the running ,a lot of points went begging today.

The Stewards really need to decide what is ok and what isn’t! Im sick of one rule for some and not for others. As with the drivers I think “consistancy” is the key.
Lindy Hall 5:46 pm February 25th 2008
In all honesty, i think both James and Craig where both too aggressive!
But thats racing - and crashes happen!
Lets just move forward and get on with the next event! less then 2 weeks away!
Jamie Whincup 2:36 pm February 26th 2008
James is allowed to block (not lap after lap) and I think his blocking was exceptable. But Craig had overlap at the appex so James should have given him a car width on the inside. If he did and Craig couldn’t pull up for the corner and hit him, well Craig should get a drive through.
Where even there is overlap between two cars, they both should give racing room.

In the heat of the moment/race it would be hard not to just go for it, and there is a very fine line between winning it and binning it.

Guys rubbing is racing but there are times when stupid and dangerous moves are made by all. I have to admit though that from a spectators point of veiw it was great to see more passing and less conservative driving of the past few years.
Mark Szwadiak 4:04 pm February 26th 2008
There seems to be a large grey area with the ‘racing room’ topic, and it spans back to when Marcos Ambrose and Skaifey came together at Barbagallo and EC. There must be a clearer way of approaching it rather than saying “each incident will be assessed on its merits”, because it has happened by then.
There were quite a few silly incidents on the weekend, like James on Murph almost ending in a big wreck, Craig steaming down the inside of Winterbottom and Holdsworth.
Stephen-The Marsdenator 4:56 pm February 26th 2008
A similar incident between Murphy and Ambrose at Bathurst comes to mind as well, that turned into a big wreck on the approach to the cutting …
