Biggest Competiton in 2008

I have my opinion on who I think your biggest competition will be, but what do you and everyone else think.

And a give us your dark horse as well while your here.

FWIW, I think HRT will trouble, and FPR.
I have high hopes for JC ;)
Dark horse, DJR boys.

Jamies greatest competition this year will come from himself followed by Lowndes then Frosty, Ugly Garth.

Dark Horse will be Russell Ingall.

You hear a lot of the drivers say that they firstly need to beat their team mate, so I would say that Craig will be Jamie’s biggest competition, followed by FPR and HRT(Tander). As long as they are 1-2 I will be happy :).

Dark Horse: Lee Holdsworth

As for the championship it will be the likely suspects of 888, HRT, FPR, possibly HSVDT, maybe SBR if they can get their act together.
Bathurst will be a different story, all of the above will be right there. However DJR, JDR, TASMAN, BOC (yes very ambitious) GRM and possibly even BRITEK will also be putting in a good challenge

As for the dark horse(s) in the championship it is definitely JDR, and DJR. The speed and experience of Kelly will help the perkins squad, and DJR seemed to have got the team making some good progress, and they have maintained some stability over the last year or so.

My tip is with Mel, and some of what THE DIRTY SANCHEZ said.

Beeting your team mate is always a very difficult thing to do, your subconsious mind plays with you throughout the whole year in beating yourteam mate.

My Dark horse is Will Davidson and Winterbottom, and i cant see Ingal doing anything special. Sorry Dirty!!!

I would like to say a special thanks to Jamie on his Video about the clipsal 500 track report. Well done, and never been done before.

I think with his PR ability off the track and driving capabilty on the track, who can not afford to be assosiated with him.

Good luck in SA, may you come home with the chocolates.

Errr Corinne!! i made that up dont us it!! gesssss

i think that Jamie wont stand his ground and take them out coz that would make him a cheater and hes not!! coz then we would call him Pricky boy!! LMAO

and i think that Will is one to watch coz that would suck if it came down to Will and Jamie in the last race!!

I think Jamies biggest threat this year will be Craig Lowndes - I am sure he will be putting up one hell of a fight to win that elusive Championship with FORD although I do think Jamie will come out on top once again. I think Frosty will also have one hell of a shot his speed towards the end of last year was amazing so it will be interesting to see how it goes if he can put it all together in the races.
Dark horses for me would definitely be DJR - I dont think they are capable of winning a lot of races but podiums is a definite possibility. Also hope JC has a good year

I have no more idea than you on this topic, I have the blinkers on and focus about my own job. But the usual suspects will be there for sure.

Hey, how do you think HSV will go this year? Will Ricko still be fast without Garth? Will the team still be strong without the people that moved to HRT?

Outsider for me is Thomo, only cause he’s my mate.

Montanna (Mon)

I dont think HSV will go that strongly this year. I mean they have lost a lot of personall this year. Only time will tell but I dont think Rick will be a threat this year.

How does everybody think Mark Skaife and Garthy Tander will go together this year as teammates, I personally think their will be fireworks as they are both pretty headstrong characters (by the way I am being really nice here I had some other words lol)

HSV hey.

It depends. There was a lot of talk that GT was the one setting the car up, but I think Rick is swtiched on enough to handle that.

I think it’s just down right wrong what TW and Holden have pulled with the swapping of engineers, mechanics and driver to HRT.

In short, I think Rick himself may suffer with the team. But I really hope (and I can’t believe I am suggesting this) that both Kelly boys kick some serious HRT butt.

What I am more interested in is how you think HRT will go?

BJ 888

BJ 888 5:18 pm February 21st 2008

I think that the teams who have changed around a lot, in terms of personnel, drivers, cars, etc. will take a round or two to settle in and get there butts into gear. Pitstop times, getting used to a new car and engineer, etc. will take a bit of time for some.

If the teams that are the same/mainly the same as last year can use that to their advantage, they can get a few points ahead.

But if last year is anything to go by, its going to be close at the pointy end of the season. There is a lot more competition this year I think. Atleast half the field are capable, whether or not they will depends on their cars, teams and in themselves.

Biggest contenders? From both factory teams, HSV, TeamVodafone, DJR and SBR.

Gonna be an awesome season!

Jamie, I think you’re main contenders will be: Frosty, Lowndesy & Garth……

….I dont think Rick will be a problem for ya this year for the same reasons Louise gave (loss of personnel to HRT) and the fact that Rick will have to get to know a vastly less experienced team mate in PD….

The dark horse(s) i think will be the SBR duo of Courtney and Van Gizzy…..

Donna Jarvis

Donna Jarvis 8:15 pm February 21st 2008

After what I saw at the Qld test day last week, I reckon ol James “dancing man” Courtney is the biggest threat.
The dark horse would be and this is just a guess Steve Johnson.
The one for most crashes, easy Paul Morris

Joseph Louis 9:35 pm February 21st 2008

I hope all the FORD teams do well this year, especially SBR for JC.

I don’t think Rick will be much of a threat this year. IMO, he was never fast against Tander, all he was, was very consistant. Consistantly in the top 7 or so in every race, which has been helped by the points system in the past few years., kept him in the championship the whole year.

Hopefully we’ll see Whincup, Lowndes, Courtney and Winterbottom all fighting it out for the championship. Never mind the Holden teams, on paper, only Tander/Skaife look like challenging.

Nicky Bewert

Biggest Competition would be Frosty. He has improved out of sight in both technique and confidence throughout 2007.
I don’t think GT is going to be a threat this year due to new team jitters and learning to cope with Skaife being your boss and co-driver, could be a bit of clash of the personalities there.
It will be interesting to see how Shane Van Gisbergen goes this year settling in, but I also agree with a comment made on the other best ever forum, that Shane needs to crash to see how good he can be, and to see what his limitations are. I personally don’t think he is really going to blossom until around 2010. He needs two years to make mistakes and learn, to build up his confidence running in the “main game”, and to make a name for himself.
Unfortunately for my fave Rusty, this move to PMM is a step down, in my opinion they have never been strong, and if PM says he has good cars and that he’s a good driver, then why isn’t he getting good results? there’s only so much you can blame on other drivers, and i’m afraid it will be clash of the ego’s there too.
Dark Horse? I have two. Junior Johnson, since he’s lost weight he has found a new fire in himself, and is even more hungrier for success now. And Todd Kelly, JDR have always been a team on top of their game, even with their two young ones last yr. I think this change will be a good one for Todd, and I think he’s going to find that something that has been over shadowed by skaife for so many years, and come out and kick butt.
Just my opinion, don’t shoot me.
