Mackenzie, try mcphillamy park or reid park. It is excellent up there.

Thank’s for the help David :D

Yep, Reid and McPhillamy; they’re great places to see the cars squirming around the bends and over the bumps at very high speed and with the drivers at maximum concentration. It’s a fantastic sight. Just wait for the first lap when you hear the massive roar of those exhausts screaming nearer and nearer, louder and louder and then the first of them burst into view all a slither and you can barely work out which car you want to look at as they blast by.

… and at the very back, a lone red and white car, crackling and belching smoke, crippled by another mechanical failure saves Skaife the embarrasment of a repeat of his Philip Island performance!
Yeah, I know. In another thread I said I wouldn’t wish ill of them but I got so excited I couldn’t help myself.

If it’s your first time seeing the V8s live, it will be a real eye opener. Also, you’ll get a better appreciation of the amazing track, how narrow it is, how steep it is etc. When I first went up, there were still wire farm fences around there and you drove on the circuit to get to the camping grounds on the hill. Actually, there’s a photo of my XB Hardtop on the grid at that event on my profile.

Strewth, simply writing about it I’ve just got myself all excited all over again!

You’ll love it!

Hey Stepen,
Thanks for the tip. I went to Oran Park in 2006, but nothing is as good and Bathurst :D
Can’t wait to get up there!!
Thanks :D

Just for those that will be stuck on the couch for Bathurst…. will annyone be dropping into the chat room throughout the race for a bit of analysis???

:)

Mackenzie Price 2:11 pm October 5th 2008

I will be,
I am only on the Mountain on Saturday, I am working out the best place to go for next year! I might drop in, during the 10 minute long ad’s. Also maybe during long saftey car’s. Is the race going to be live accross Australia?

Doe 4:13 pm October 5th 2008

i wont be going but i might drop into chat it all depends on how many peeps come here for race day drinks and a BBQ :) any sydney peeps want a day up the coast with other racing nuts and a day of fun let me know ( the more the merrier i say )
Mac up the top is great fun ( if your male that is lol ) but for front staight actoin either hell corner or murry’s corner are great … you get the whole main straight and the pits as well as some awsome loses on the corners

Hey Muz….I will be doing double duties!. I will be driving of course for JWCR AND watching the TV plus cooking the BBQ, drinking the wine, entertaining the family and spending a bit of time on livechat.

Look forward to catch you on here!

How do you get up to Reid Park? Drive, Walk, Bus? I just want somewhere good to take photo’s rather than Pit Straight.

Doe 7:51 pm October 5th 2008

there’s a bus that will take you up to the top and bring you back down … its runs all day so you can go up there anytime you want

That is a great idea, chat room drop in during the race - especially if we have a long safety car period.

I’ll be hosting a BBQ and drinks get-together at my place this year, but if I find time to pull myself away from the tv screen i might jump online for a bit.

Hey Mac, as Stephen says, TV does not do the Mt Panorama circuit justice- you will be blown away by how big the mountain is and how steep the track is . Ideally if you can get right around the top of the Mountain during the day you could watch from Reid park to Forrest Elbow- I like watching the cars cresting McPhillamy Park and heading down into the Esses.

Stephen

Stephen 8:58 pm October 5th 2008

Troy, that’s right. Need to stroll right around down to Forrest’s Elbow. I remember in ‘77 (I think) stepping through the farm fence that was there then and being right beside the track at Forrest’s until a marshall spotted me and suggested I retreat! I haven’t been there since 1986 but I bet it’s much better fenced now!

You really need to see as much of the mountain section as possible because that’s the unique bit. The lower sections could be on any other track in the country; straights (THEY AREN’T BLOODY ‘STRAIGHTAWAYS’! That’s something that happens immediately. A piece of road between two corners is a STRAIGHT!!! Daryl Beatie et al please take notice. Glad I got that off my chest again.) with right angle corners.

Troy is obviously one who has experienced the sensational road up there. Like I said, you’ll love it!

I’d say… anywhere on track where you can catch a glimpse of the tv footage as well!! There are screens set up all over the shop. They seem to increase them every year. I prefer right opposite the team vodafone garage. But… that’s just me. I like to see the action of the pit stops, the drivers prepping themselves between stints and a view of a tv screen as well!!

That way you get to see it all!

Prolly the best part of the track is taken up by a big, ugly, concrete monstrosity… it is exactly where I used to sit!!

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr…

Mac, there’s some interesting insights at the following link. See comments from some successful veterans that help to impart the unique character of the circuit and the event.

Mackenzie Price 7:00 pm October 6th 2008

Thank’s for the Stephen, there were some good point’s in there. As it said, I am suprised Besnard has not had a drive for 2 seasons.
I was thinking Forest Elbow, Hell Corner Reid Park/Mcphilmy Area(woops, sorry for the spelling).
