Heard on the radio news this morning that Jamie & Craig have become ambassadors against TXT'ing while driving… is this just because they are top blokes or is it something Vodafone has put in place??
either way i works for me…. what ever they say… i do…. hahaha
anyway, good on em, hopefully there will be allot less TXT'ing related accidents.
Cheers
Roh

Good on them! I think it’s great for them to support something like this as so many young people follow and support the guys, and agreed whatever Jamie & Craig say i’ll do! (Not that i do text while driving!)

Does anyone find it ironic that that team sponsored by a phone carrier are a part of this?

Movember
Anti Texting

Well to be honest, I don't know why people try to text and drive….most people can't text and walk straight at the same time…
Casey Phoenix 3:49 pm December 21st 2008
I've walked into you in the streets then Muz?
and Craig's 'safety thing' has clearly made an impact on Jordan!. hehe Are you referring to the safe driving initiative where Craig talks about split second decisions on the race track, and decisions when road driving?
SMITHY(Tipping Admin) 5:05 pm December 21st 2008
No!

Sort of like the drinks sponsor, they promote RESPONSIBLE use of their products.

Well, I totally agree with Vodafone’s stance on anti texting - clearly it’s dangerous as is talking on the mobile while driving. Boy seen plenty of accidents caused by “Idiots” who were distracted by their phones !
Pull over if it’s that important ! Or better yet, turn your phone off when you get in the car ! much less distracting.

Real-life story. I dropped a friend at home about 12 months ago, and he dared me to ‘fang’ the V8 as I left. I complied.
Anyway - as I turned onto one of the Darwin (Palmerston) roads - at night - I decided to check what my friend thought of what I did. I realised that my phone was on the back seat in my bag, so I lent back to try and find it. I couldn’t find the bag so looked back to see where it was. As I got the phone I thought to myself, “you know what - this is pretty silly. Check the phone when you get home because you could have an accident.”
I threw the phone on the passenger seat, and as I looked up I notied there was a car coming the other way and thought, ‘bugger - I had better turn my high beams off.’
And this is the time in my life where I am so very happy about a decision that I have made, ie not looking at the phone text. A car decided to overtake the oncoming car about 300 m in front of me. This left me with the following situation; oncoming car for front-on impact at approx 240 km/h impact, oncoming car in opposit lane with approx 160 km/h side/front impact, 4 street signs and a telegraph pole on the left side of the road at 90 km/h impact and it was too dark to see what was on the right, but I knew I was very close to the bridge (over water).
Having a VY Commodore I chose to go for the head-on impact, making the choice that that was the best chance I had of survival due to the crumple zone and airbags. I slammed my brakes on to reduce the impact speed as much as possible, but kept myself at a slow roll to leave me with options.
The innocent car realised what was happening and hit his brakes to try and give me options. The oncoming car finally saw me and swerved to the right centimetres before impact (the skid marks on the road proved this - once I had the car lined up with his I braced for the inevitable impact it was that close). He all but wrote his car off hitting the street signs, but amazingly had managed to thread his car like a needle between the two power poles (he would have had half a metre either side of the car at most.)
Anyway - disaster was averted, the innocent car drove back to check on me while the other one did a runner. The rest of the story is rather irrelevant to this post - however, the idiot driver is dead - he died in a similar accident about a month later.
If I had ‘txted and drove’ that night, I would not have had that few split seconds to develop a plan that would give me the best chance of surviving a serious crash. Due to the close proximity of the skid marks, I know that if I had only 5 km/h more speed in my car we would have hit, and I would likely be dead today due to his high speed.
So I have joked in other posts in this discussion, but I no longer text and drive. 12 months later I still have trouble driving at night on country roads which is a good reminder of what could have been. Also - good idea to have decent tyres and brakes!

Good on them.
It's stupid and dangerous to use phones while driving. Personally i think people who use phones in ANY way while driving are idiots.
I know of someone who was killed 2 years ago because the driver of the car he was in was texting. He was doing about 130-140km/h as well, on a country road with lots of trees. He dropped the phone and both him and my mate stupidly went to pick it up. The car crossed on to the wrong side of the road and hit some trees. The guy i knew ofs side got most of the impact and he was killed instantly, while the driver died in hospital later that night. Ive been told his injuries were really bad, im not going to go into them because they're gruesome.
I hate seeing people texting or talking on the phone whilst they're driving. You're not only risking your own saftey, but everyone elses around you too. I know i cant blame anyone else for what happened, it was no one elses fault..but i think when something like that hits close to home, you become more aware of how dangerous it can be, well i know i have anyway. I still remember being told what had happened, and its horrible. It really is. Its not worth risking it, wait til you get home.

True Story:
2 Very close friends of mine were driving.
The father of one of my friends was following in a car behind.
A Girl coming the opposite direction was texting her sister ringtones.
Her sister was in the passengar seat.
Driving along the wrong side of the road 40km over the speed limit - The girl had no idea
Lachlan saw what was happening and like you casey, saw his choices - the girl texting, did not.
Lachlan swerved to avoid the head on, at the very last second - the girl also swerved to avoid the head on.
The girl swerved in the same direction.
Lachlan is a paraplegic.
Daniel Died at the scene, trapped in the car, talking to lachlan.
Daniels father saw the whole thing.
The girls sister died instantly.
The girl walked away.
Ive been known to yell at people when i see them txt’ing.
I also cannot stand people talking on speaker - yet holding the phone to their mouth?

The last couple of posts show just how dangerous any distraction (eg Matthew white..) can be when in control of a motor vehicle.
Mobile phones can be particularly nasty, as there is a tendency to answer the call (even to say.. I’ll ring you back) or read the text message. I feel somewhat guilty if I reject a call… (not that I get many).
Was thinking, maybe what mobile phones need is a button that will tell the person calling that the are driving and to then pass them on to an answering service….either that or a way of the phone doing this automatically when in the car….

If we had a prize for ‘post that made Casey laugh the loudest’ it would have to be Andrew’s (above) Matthew White gag.
