7 ads

My god…i am so sick of the ads on channel 7 during the v8's…i was watching sandown 2day nd realised that they had an adbreak roughly every 5 laps, with the longest 9 laps. Come on channel seven this is rediculous!!!. advertising is everywhere, so y the hell do we need to interupt the middle of the race with ads every 5 laps???
Now, if any1 from channel 7 reads this, fix it!!. i can understand an adbreak during the safety cars, but not right in the middle of the race when intense battles r going on…ITS NOT GOOD ENOUGH!. Does any1 else agree??

I am with you Blake! It just seems to get worse and worse through out the race! Who votes for what station covers the v8’s maybe if the public had more say then we would be able to control it a bit better. but I am guessing it’s all about $$$$ and the more advertising the more channel 7 is happier.

I agree, was watching the football just before and that only has blocks of one ad, and then its back to the action, but for v8 supercars we have about 15 differant ads.

I think we need ads like football, v8 supercars is one of Australias higest viewing sports.

just before they left ten, ten brought in the 1min comercial.

Tell me about it, they only had 1 1/2 hours of footage, and in the first half hour, i reckon there was 20 minutes of commercials, and it just seemed to get worse!! And how annoying is Mark Taylor on that Fujitsu ad?!?!

I totally agree!!! The amount of ads compared to the actual broadcast is getting worse. As I have foxtel, I have been taping the broadcast the last couple of rounds and started watching it about an hour into it to avoid all the ad breaks, but due to there being so many, you still catch pretty quick. I understand that they have to have the ads but do they really need to have that many so often????

Steph 11:47 am June 9th 2008

I agree. After the first lot of ads they went back and showed the cars on the warm up lap for about 15 seconds then did ‘Jacks Facts’ then went to ads again that went on for ages!!! But when it comes to the race we dont actually miss any of the action. As the telecast was delayed they were able to go to ads on, say lap 5, then come back and it will still be lap 5 even if the ads went on for 4 minutes. It would have been nice to see all of qualifiying instead of the little snippets we got. I think that for all the other rounds we saw all of qualifying? Why was it different for Sandown? Because of football, doesnt channel 10 have rights for football too? We get 6 hours of football then an hour and a half of racing, approx 45 of that would have been ads though. It isnt good enough!!!

Steph i agree with u but i have 2 disagree with u when u said we dnt miss any of the action….i counted a few timez when for e.g. they left the racing for an adbreak on lap 19 and came back on lap 22. I also agree with u alister. the 1 ad commercials i think would b a great alternative. I’m ohk with the fact that we should have adbreaks during the safety car periods bcoz well lets face it, we tune in 2 watch our beloved v8’s racing at 250+ k’s an hour nd not 60…could any1 plz fill me in if channel 10 eva had this many ads?? as far as i can rememba i dont think they did……

The times i was paying attention to the laps before and after ads they stayed the same. i must’ve missed the changes you saw, Blake.

Channel 7… where do I begin…

I think I’ve said before that the audience that Channel 7 appeals to is definitely not a V8 audience. V8’s suited Channel 10’s dynamic much better. Channel 7 obviously has no idea about telecasting the V8’s - and I think this is why the V8’s aren’t getting the audience they should be getting. Why would anyone who wasn’t a huge V8 fan (like us) sit through all of these ads and miss all the action? It’s not doing the V8’s any favours at all. It looks boring and over commercialised.

Take a look at the rest of the quality shows on Channel 7 - how the hell do the V8’s sit alongside the rubbish on that channel (sorry… not a channel 7 fan). Channel 10 has more grunt when it comes to tv programs - and the V8’s fitted in there perfectly. Even Channel 9 would be better than 7. I can’t recall how many years the V8’s are contracted to Channel 7 but I’m over it already. I have not been happy with the coverage ever since it went to 7 and last years’ broadcast of Bahrain really finished any positive regard for 7.

It’s so frustrating… it’s bad enough when we have to wait weeks and weeks for the next round… and then we only see 3/4’s of the race.

If all of these companies want to advertise during the V8’s - why don’t Channel 7 have less ad breaks and charge more for the privilege. Wouldn’t that rake in more money than having to put up with the same ad 100 times? We are more inclined as consumers to get annoyed and not want to support the advertising company because it is saturating the market - if we saw an ad once or twice and it made an impact - we’d be more inclined to support whatever product they’re pushing onto us. (Which is exactly the reason why I don’t watch tv any more anyway)

That’s my opinion anyway - I think less is more when it comes to advertising - especially when it interrupts my precious V8’s!!

Oh… and btw - as much as I love the Backstreet Boys - I do wonder how the beginning of one of their newest songs is played as the V8’s go to the ad break… what the?

Cos I can really see how Backstreet Boys and V8’s go together… the only link they have is me as far as I can tell! ;)
(or it’s just another indication of how Channel 7 really have no idea…)

I agree Rach, I think the bottom line when drawing comparisson between Ch 7’s coverage and Ch 10’s coverage is very simple. Ch 10 loved motorsport. Back in the day (lol) if you put on channel 10 on a weekend, you didn’t have a choice, you had to watch motorsport of some kind… V8’s, bikes, anything. Channel 7 just doesn’t care enough…

And (also @ Rach) apart from the unusual Backstreet Boys tune (and thanks for identifying, I knew I recognised the voice but couldn’t put my finger on it) one thing that Ch 7 seem to be ok at is the music… they used to play Muse alot… LOL :)

Blake 4:11 pm June 10th 2008

I agree its become way 2 commercialised nowdays….Itz a shame. With the music thing that is strange 2 hav the backstreet boys lol. they alwayz use the foo fighters and im not complaining :)

Number of ads is crazy.
I record all the V8 rounds, and the editing function on my DVD recorder allows me to cut out segments (ie ad breaks), however it only allows me to cut out a maximum of 16 sections…

This is enough for a sprint race, but isn’t for a leg of the Clipsal (i.e. 250km)…..

Muz…

Muz... 7:07 pm June 10th 2008

Well i actually timed it at the start of the coverage…. We saw the warm up lap for a segment of coverage for 1min 30secs, and then a 5 min ad break, then we went back to the track, saw the warm up lap again, the first 4 laps, then it was another ad, and we came back on lap 6 to see the pit lane open…. disappointing!

I have an idea, instead of running ads, why don’t they just run the logo’s for companies across the bottom of the screen every now and then…. we will still see the racing, and companies will have a more noticed brand as people will not have tuned out due to there being another ad!
I understand they need to have the advertising to make money, but re-format it so we miss significantly less racing!!

Layla 9:48 pm June 10th 2008

I agree. Ive also noticed there isnt as much coverage as usual. Channel 7 cant telecast the AFL and the V8 supercars, they clash and we miss out.

FORDGIRL 4EVR 1:22 pm June 12th 2008

its so true hate 7 for that bring back 10 and like a lots of us we cant all go to every race so we have to
watch it on tv and 7 does a shit job. once i taped it was good fast forward all the shit but i want to see it live and not find out who won before i get a chance to see it.
i dont know if there is any way around this if we stop watching 7 they might get the hint but that means missing out on watch the v8’s and that i cant live with out.
so 7 hear us and plssssssssssssssssssssssssss more v8’s less adds.

Maybe the solution to the problem is instead of all of us having a few words on here we start a petition to give to channel seven … i’m sure that between this site and the many others out there we could get enough signatures to make them sit up and listen … but hey thats my thought on the matter … i agree that the coverage leaves a lot to be desired but at least now we do get more coverage and not the whole weekend shoved into one day

Blake

Blake 5:58 pm June 12th 2008

Thatz a great idea 4 a petition….i would definately put my name down. :) Mayb we can get jamie involved as well??

So it looks like we all agree that Channel 7 don’t value the V8’s like we do! I can understand they want to make money out of hosting the coverage, but at the same time, so do all of the committed V8 series and team sponsors who put huge budgets into supporting the series, then aren’t given the coverage they paid for coz there’s always ads.
I try and be at as many events as i can, but for those i can’t make it too it’s so frustrating to be in ‘the zone’ of the action and all of a sudden there’s more ads when you’ve only just got back with the action to start with. The 1 minute ad is the perfect solution: win-win for the fans and network.
On this topic, did you all fill out the V8 Fan Survey ealier this year? Was the perfect place to release the frustrations and give your thoughts on improvements to Channel 7’s V8 committment. I know i wrote quite a lot on the media side of this association! Let’s hope Channel 7 listen to the viewers who keep them in business!

Yep I filled out that survey Kat. I definitely didn’t hold back when it came to my opinion on the media coverage!
