Good subject Craig, and yes the results are almost correct…….TeamVF were 6th and Sydney FC were 7th.
They were taken from the Repucom Sports Survey Report that surveys the public in each state - I believe over 4000 people.
From memory the Crowes were right up there. ……….Sorry Wheels - HRT didnt get a look in the overall top 20 result.
From the specific V8 fans that were surveyed, TeamVodafone were the most popular with about 14.7% namimg them as their favourite team. HRT were a close second with 14.6%. And from there the story was told, only 0.4% of fans surveyed named FPR as their favourite team. 25% said that they had no preference to any one team and the rest was divided up amongs the rest.
Clearly TeamVodafone and HRT are light years ahead of the other teams in regards to popularity and profile with V8 fans but its a massive achievement to have TeamVodafone listed as 6th overall by all sports fans in gerenal!!. Its also a home run for our sport to be recognised by the greater community…right up there with all the ball sports.
Clearly nobody at Ford bothered to read the report……….LOL
It is extemely intertesting and has a massive amount of credibility amongst the corporate world. The facts were also backed up by a similar report produced by sports marketing specialists Gemba.
If I get time over the next few days I'll pull a few more interesting facts out of the report for your consumption.
Cheers

This is especially impressive given the relatively short time that Triple 8/Team Betta Electricial/Team Vodafone has been around. Triple 8 first bought Briggs in late 2003 wasn’t it ?
HRT, in it’s current guise, has been around now since 1988, and then you have the HDT prior to that since the laste 60’s.
As for the footy clubs… they have been around for donkeys.
Matt, I bet PJ rubs his hands together when he gets ammo like this to hit prospects with….

I find it hard to believe that the Swannies where the most popular team… I would have thought Collingwood or the bombers would be in front of them. The Crows have the biggest membership in the AFL so that is no shock that they got up there. No cricket, no super 14 teams either. hmmm….
It would be interesting to do the same exercise with sports people, rather than teams.
I reckon Lowndesy would be right in the very top bracket, with J-dub scoring well also.

David…i would have to agree that the Australian Cricket Team not being in there is a surprise, along with the Swans being the most popular i find hard to believe…maybe most of those surveyed were from Sydney…who knows.
As for the Most Supported Australian Sports People idea…would be interesting to know…but how many of them would be in there for the right reasons i.e. Footy Players acting like “Bozo the Clown”…no doubt Jamie being up there is a forgone conclusion (not as Bozo though)…..
and i must say as i share the same last name as him, i get people all the time commenting on him to me…and not once have i ever had someone even say the slightest thing against him…and believe me if i had a dollar for everytime someone asked me about him i’d be retired on the Gold Coast by now! (i can only dream) hahaha
maybe some of the Footy Players could do with some retraining on life from JW…maybe that will be his career path after racing

very true craig, jamie is a very well behaved young man.
Although, with RD as your boss I reckon that would be a great motivator to stay out of trouble.
Having said that, all of the V8 guys are all great from that perspective. When was the last time you saw any of them in any trouble ? Nearly every other sport has had ‘behaviorial issues’ - swimming, football (all codes), cricket… but our guys keep away from all that.

Magpies have the biggest fanclub, so I thought that they’d be at the top, instead of sydney.
Luke Woods 11:52 am July 12th 2008
its obvious that the sydney swans were at the top, there is only one afl team in sydney. This means all the afl fans in the biggest state(NSW) would have voted the swans as their favourite team.
